I'll add my lurking, but to date silent, voice to the crowd regarding Mr. Nalty. I am forever grateful to him and his peer for the OUTSTANDING writing education I got at OGHS.

Please pass along my profound thanks and let him know he clearly has made a huge difference to many, many students.

Thank you to all of you who have given your regards to Jack Nalty. I wanted to let you know that I have compiled all of your kind thoughts and memories for him as a belated Christmas present. I know that he will greatly appreciate them all. Thank you to all of you who have contacted me. If anyone else would like to do so, I will continue to pass along your messages.

Best wishes,
Caitlin

Open letter to Mr Jack Nalty:

"How can you thank someone who has taken you from crayons to perfume?" Oh wait someone else used that one...Ok, time to get serious. Since your grandaughter has so graciously offered to forward any correspondence to you, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the education that I received from you at Oak Grove High School (A Public high school...imagine that!). My name is Kim Lane and I graduated from Oak Grove in 1980. You were my English teacher for freshman year English 1A and my senior year for Advanced Humanities. I was the tarot card reader in the witch group at our Renaissance faire. Visitors to the faire actually paid me for a reading and I made the English department a little money...(my very humble little claim to fame) You probably don't even remember me as I was not an outstanding academic ( See: Laura Church, Richard Bender) I was a wisecracking chubby blond girl who was a little intimidated by you and craved your respect and approval. I did go on to graduated from college with honors. I must tell you that the education that I received from OGHS was so appreciated after I went out in to the world and begun to realize that not everyone was as well prepared for college as I was. You and your colleagues, Betty Williams, Judith Dimicelli, Ron Neighbors and Michelle Shibley all deserve to be recognized for what you achieved by making the English department at Oak Grove high school so exemplary. I didn't appreciated it nearly enough at the time, but now that I am the parent of two college aged students, I am often filled with gratitude that I went to school at OGHS during the years that you were teaching there and heading up the English Dept. What I really want to say is that I have never had a more colorful, inspirational, or most importantly, effective teacher since high school and I can't thank you enough for that. Your true calling was teaching and you made a huge difference in my life. Thanks.

Ah, Mr. Nalty ... brings back memories. It's a shame we don't realize what an awesome teacher he was until we're adults. I learned so much from him while ducking out of the way ... as he threw plastic fruit at someone behind me.

I can write an executive summary to a complex business report like nobody's business ... because he taught me how to do a precis in English class.

Please give him my best.

What a shock about Mike Fujimoto. I remember Mike from elementary school at Edenvale. Our parents were friends and I remember visiting at his house and him coming to my Birthday parties when I was little. I will always remember him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He will be missed.
Sincerely,

I am very sorry to hear about Mike. Last Thursday 12/11, I celebrated my anniversary of being cancer-free for 19 years. I had a malignant brain tumor removed on 12/11/1989. All us who are still here, if something is not right find out what is wrong and do not let anyone stop your search until you are given a cure/treatment. I thought Mr Nalty's first name was John not Jack.

The words etched in my mind from senior year humanities:
"Young ladies and gentlemen!" (followed by a dramatic flip of his tie over his shoulder). Kept my attention.

Hope everyone is having a good holiday season. I'm feeling a little nostalgic... I lost track of Ron Campbell many years ago and would like to find him again. Does anyone know how to contact Ron? If you do, or if you'd just like to say hi, you can email me at barry AT adesignforlife DOT com.

That's very sad to hear about Mike. Yes, a super nice guy. Thanks for letting us know, Fuji.

John Gutierrez, hey speaking of marching band, what was the name of the Maynard Ferguson tune that you guys played. I loved the way that sounded when the band played it.

Hey.

I STILL talk about Mr. Nalty. Best damn English Teacher EVER. I busted my tail for a C in his class and couldn't have been more proud of my achievement LOL. I've spoken about him and his unique teaching style often to my daughter over the years. She is 17 and guess what, she wants to be a Teacher... An english teacher no less. Everything comes full circle.

Heres a list of words that is still etched into my head from his class.. Freshman year, 77-78.
Be

Please give him my best...

Hi All,
I am by no means an Alumni of Oak Grove, but stumbled upon this Bulletin Board on accident. My Grandfather, Jack Nalty taught english at Oak Grove and I had noticed that some of you had wondered about him since your graduation. He is still living in San Jose. If you email me at C.Nalty AT yahoo DOT com I can pass along your messages for him.

Have a wonderful Holiday season.

Sorry to hear about the passing. I don't remember if I knew him. Wanted to say hi to Mike. I know I knew you but don't remember how. Were you in band Mike? Didn't you play clarinet?

Very sad to hear about Mike ... I too knew him for many years. We used to kill time in the library by playing that stupid "football" game using a piece of notebook paper folded up into a triangle shape.

He was a good guy.

Hello to everyone from London ... I will be home in the Bay Area over the Christmas period - would be nice to meet up if anyone is around.

Take care and Happy Holidays.

Wishing everyone a pleasant Holiday filled with family, friends and love. Remember to count your blessings and be thankful for all that is around you. Remembering the good times and giving a "Shout out" to the Suhama family. Just heard from Margo Suhama, (Mike Suhama's Lil sister), unfortunately, he lost his battle with Lymphoma and passed away on October 31st and was recently layed to rest on November 8th. Where ever you may be, be sure to light a candle in his name. You can read his obit and send your wishes by signing his guest book.

Some sad news...

Mike Suhama passed away yesterday morning. I've known Mike since Kindergarden. Mike's brother called me. I was a bit shocked when I received the call.

Mike passed away from Lymphoma last Friday morning.

I have never attended a reunion and I feel awful about it. I used to be in the band at school. I would welcome any and all emails from my classmates at Oak Grove. I live in rural Colorado and have a wife and 5 kids. My life kicks butt. Some of my best memories were being in the marching band. Also, doing lunch time concerts with my friends...Larry Gerstley, Dave Philips, Ron Campbell Jr., and Steven Wilbur. I think High School was amazing!!!

Hi everyone!! Haven't been to this website in a long time, but glad to see people are using it. Sorry I missed the last reunion ( I was in Hawaii) but I plan on attending the 30th!!! It's nice to look back on all the people you went to High School with. I'm living in Newman now (by Tracy) and loving it. Keep on writing, and hope to see all at the 30th!!!

Hello you all happy people.... I am on my way to New York for business sitting in airplane surfing and drinking (they still give free drinks in Business Class. Oh yeah, I do like the CRUISE idea for 30 yr reunion as long as no one falls or thrown over board ha..ha..ha.. Oh, almost forgot, son is getting "Deployed" to IRAQ by end of June from his Air Force Fleet... sad.. sad.. for the wife especially. Later.......

6/16/08
Hi everyone! Sorry I didn't make the last reunion but I do want to make the 30. Some of you probably won't remember me because I moved during junior year, but I sure remember most everyone. I had an interesting idea for the 30th reunion, what about doing a cruise? My mom's 30 year high school reunion was a 3 day cruise to Ensenada. Maybe there's something that can be done out of San Francisco. If we have two years to plan we could all start saving now and I believe as a group we could get a discount. Just a thought! I hope everyone is doing well during this downturn in the economy and since we all know the price of gas is not going to go down, everyone buy electric cars and put solar on your house! Bye!
Suzette Wallen (Bernal)

2/21/08
Hey Richard.. I just ran across your post and it affected me deeply. Like Sean, I also have fond memories or your dad... the first and coolest computer nerd I ever met. I still remember the "Whow!" factor of him blinking twice at his malfunctioning Pet Computer, popping open the top, plucking out what appeared to be a random chip, reaching into a drawer full of similar chips.. selecting one, inserting it, closing the lid, and having the D@#$ed thing working again.

Send my love to your family.. you are in my thoughts, Ron.

Happy New Year Bill,
Sorry for the delay.

We use subcons in SZ (HonHai/Foxconn). I do know some people. Apples offices are in Shanghai... Tough without the language and visa. We are expanding for many other projects in the region. Let me know if I can help.

Caught up with with Brad (Mickel) Andersohn. He is doing well. Living with his wife and kids up near me and is a Big YES for the reunion. I have current contact info which I will be forwarding to you off line...

Happy Birthday Terry Chase (1/12)

Hope you are well.

De De Tomlinson sends her regards.

Hugs!

Bill,

What are you doing in Shenzhen? You still at LMT? Been there a few times on business - best way from Hong Kong to Shenzhen is via Ferry - takes you right from/to HKG airport. For a few extra bucks, you can even go first class riding on the second deck. BTW, gotta watch your back there - Shenzhen is problably the least safe area in all of PRC, especially around the train station.

David,

Was in Sao Paulo in October for business - my current job as a technical marketing manager at Intel has given me a taste of international travel. I'm hoping to make it to Swindon this spring and will let you know by late Feb if that happens so we can grab a pint and catch up!

Cheers!
Bill Catambay
1/3/08
JoAnn... at the Shenzhen mfg office, are they hiring?

HK to SZ is kind of a pain... especially if you don't speak Chinese, and it certainly doesn't help when your Chinese Visa visit limit is used up.

Jeff... would you please send me your correct email? I sent you a note from Bill Beck awhile back, but apparently you never received it, so I assume you have a new email address (and the one you supplied with your posting bounced).
Jeff Ramirez
1/3/08
Hey Billy Beck, I just heard you were looking for me from Lisa James (thanks Lisa) give me a call. (408)603-3271 Have you heard from Mitch or Brian at all? Also if Ondine is out there it would be good to hear from you.

Richard,
I tried to reach your mother today, no answer. Will try, later in the week, when things 'settle'...

VERY sorry to hear about your loss...

I still have fond memories of the numerous times at your house the gang. Both of your parents were always great to us all (treating all like family). Your dad was an innovator and I remember him introducing us to computer games (well ahead of the curve!). Also, playing the guitar and singing for us... He was kind, light hearted and seemed to have a soft spot for us all...

Take care,
Sean

Hey Bill C,

Bummer! Let me know if things shift. Would be great to hook up. Was in ShenZhen about 18 months ago...Was strictly business as we have a major manufacturer there. What are you up to in that city? The trek from HK to SZ sucked.

Hey Billy Beck.. What? You don't even say hi! LOL....Hope you are doing well.

Happy New Year All!
Here's to an amazing 2008

Cheers!

Some of you may remember my father fondly. He died yesterday from a massive heart attack at the VA Hospital. He was 68 this past November. My mother still lives at the same place 5892 Macadam Ct and has the same phone number 408-224-1071 (she never mastered the intricacies of peak time minutes vs anytime minutes and after some horrendous cell phone bills was forced to swear to us that she wouldn't get another one). Please feel free to call and offer condolences or share a memory of my dad. My brother Eric is staying at the house with her.

Hi JoAnn... my trip to China is Feb 5 to Feb 15, so it looks like I will be leaving when you arrive. I'll be down in southern China, Shenzhen, which is a couple of hours from Hong Kong. There is a slight chance that my trip will be delayed, but given the steep penalty for changing the trip dates, I'll probably stick to the original dates. So what's Apple doing up in Beijing?

PS: Happy New Year everyone!

Happy Holidays Everyone,

Big Hugs!

Just moved from Alaska and back in sunny California. We could still be here for another 2 years which means I'll possibly be up for a 30 year reunion.

WOW - So many blasts from the past on here...Great to see your names! Hope you all are happy and Healthy.

Ondine, Dyanne, Janet, Tami, Martha, Kathy, Debi, Annette Etc... Amazing. Talk about a flood of memories as I pictured each of you.. (you were all young and wrinkle free by the way :-)

..and the crowd from Anderson Elementary... How are all of you!?... Who remembers the day Anderson first opened and we all carried our plastic pull out desk drawers all the way down Copco lane from Minor school to Anderson. Think it was middle of first grade. Snap! that was a long time ago. We were a close and creative bunch back then. We spent years growing up together. Where has the time gone! .. Anyway, kind of sucked when I moved from OG to ST in 10th but I made lots of friends there too.

And there were plenty of parties at the Lopez house on Calero/Sorrel... With 4 teens there was always something happening. LOL

Sorry I missed the last renunion. I will make try to the next one.

David Pipe - Wish I knew you were living in London. Been 3 times in the past 9 months on Biz (Apple Retail Stores). Send me your details - I'll catch up with you when I'm there in '08.

Terry, Terry, Scott, Louis etc.. I can remember y'all clowning around at Davis...

Hope you all visit this site again soon so you can see my note cuz I would love to hear from you. Or you can email me: taptwice AT mac DOT com

Thanks Bill for Maintaining this site!

Miss you all!

Hey Bill,

I'd be interested in attending the 30-year reunion for sure. As far as helping out, I am currently in Sao Paulo, Brazil but given my permanent residence in Chandler, AZ, it might be difficult. Keep me in mind if there is anything I can do remotely. Obrigado!

10/22/07
Hi Everyone: As we approach 2008, this marks 2 years before a possible 30-year reunion. If we have a 30-year reunion in 2010, we should probably start the planning next year. There are still a lot of "missing" alumni, so the sooner we start looking for them, the more alumni we can find and invite to the 30-year. In 2009, we can begin arranging for the specific date, place, and events for the reunion. I would be interested in hearing from those that are interested in attending a 30-year reunion, as well as those that are willing to help out in the planning.
Kathy Hardwick

Hi Robyn, I remember you too...

Do you remember hanging out with the Winner's, Spingola's and others on the corner of Bangor Ave. and Herma? It must have been in our later years at O.G. 1979-1980?

Hi Annette,

How are you!

Ya.... I'm finally moving out of the Stipe area, since they opened up the deadend at Ella, I use to drive by your mom's old house all the time, I would see John's dad occasionally and his sister, but just about everyone else has moved away. There are only 3 more families on Dickinson that are there from when I was little, Rick and Chris Shin's parents, Chuck and Pauline Stewart's parents, the neighborhood has gone down hill so the change will be good. My mom passed away last May and she was part of the reason we stayed in the area, plus my son Bruce and his wife are going to make me a new grandma in Aug., this will be my first, they live in Folsom and now I will be closer to them.

Do you ever here from Denise or Roxanne? I hope all is well with you and your family.

Janet

I remember you! You used to help me with my home work in our creative writing class when I was a junior at OG. I think the teachers name was Mrs. Blackerbee, although I could be wrong since it's been so many years ago. I used to hang out with Billy Beck, Brian Heggarty. Hope all is well in your life, let me know how your doing...

Thanks Mr. Pipe - good to hear form you. How are things going with you? I am hanging in I think. You know what was fuuny about Mr. Bannanas was my sister had him after we did. Poor girl had to deal with him after he had me as a student. Yes it was bad for her. But to tell you the truth, he wasn't that bad. He did what it took to make me learn. If it took a few knee's to the thigh or ass (his signature moves) he did it. I want to get an Anderson e-mail list going. If you want, e-mail me at afropower1023 AT yahoo DOT com.

Congratulations on getting married, Louis! Believe it or not, I remember you best from our 5th grade class at Anderson - remember Mr. Banyas? I still remember how he used to yell at you: "MY name is Louis TOO, Louis!!" I think he was seriously disturbed.

Those of you who I saw at the last reunion will probably remember I came all the way from Sydney (where I lived) to attend - well, now I live in London, England - so a bit of a shorter trip next time (hoping there might actually BE a next time!)

Hope everyone is doing well. Anyone who would like to get in touch with me, please feel free. My email is dpipe at mac dot com.

Hi All,

Anyone know how to contact Greg Garrison? He contacted me a while ago on Classmates.com but I'm not a member and haven't been able to get through to him.

Thanks,

Louis, Congratulations on your marriage. Don't know if you remember me but we go all the way back to Caroline Davis. I can remember playing flag football with Terry Chase and Scott Johnson and clowning around with you guys while we were in Jr. High. Now that's going way back!!!!! I live up in the North west (Port Orchard, WA.) and have been working for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 17 years.

Louis,

I kinda lost touch with old contacts for a bit (4 yrs?); I was somewhere between procrastinating and just plain lazy in updating my contact info. Congrats on the marriage. E-mail me: terrychase at comcast.net Let me know who you've kept in touch with.

Hey Mitch,

How are you? Remember me at all? Missed you at our 20th reunion. Hope you are doing good and life has treated you well. When i think of you , I just remember always hanging out in the quad after school, and one time my Dad came to pick me up and you and some other guys took off so fast.

Hi Everyone,

I just found this site surfing the net tonight and I thought it would be really cool to hear from some of my high school friends. I moved away in my senior year to Auburn, CA and graduated from Placer High. Seeing all the faces and reading the names brings back some fond memories.

I would love to hear from you!

Hello Molly,

I remember you, we went to Coventry Elementary together too! We also lived in the Garden Apts. at the same time. If memory serves me correctly you were married to Jerry at the time, you just had a little boy (he is probably about 22 years old by now?) Feel free to e-mail me at angela_angela AT comcast.net so we can catch-up.

Don't know if this will ever be seen by anyone but I guess I'm feeling a bit nostalgic in my old age , and I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around the fact that it's almost 26 years since we all graduated. I have no idea if anyone will even remember me, I only spent 2 years at Oak Grove, Junior and Senior year, my folks decided to move the family from up North to San Jose because they could actually afford a house here, jeez, the good old days. Anyway, if anyone does remember me and would like to chat, I'd love to hear from you. I live in Willow Glen, so I didn't get too far from home. Bye for now...
