Hi Everyone. I just found
out about this board. Don't know if anyone will remember me or not. Seeing all of
these names again, brings back so many memories. I now live in Hilton Head Island,
South Carolina. I have two boys, 18 and 20. They are from my previous marriage. My
husband and I own Hilton Island Real Estate Co. We have been together 5 years and
married 2 1/2 years. We were just back in California last month. Went by Oak Grove
to check things out. Looks like the same ole school with quite a few modular buildings.
I do miss CA.
Hope this finds everyone doing well. Have a Very Merry Christmas and a Fantastic
2006. Email me at wtigger24 AT aol.com or post on this board if anyone remembers
me.

Hi Terri,
Thank you so much! Wow, I put that on there along time ago. I live in San Diego,
my phone number is 619-804-1570, so, if you have any leads that would be so cool.
How are you? What are you doing these days? |

3/4/05 |
Hi Tami,
I noticed that you wanted to get in touch with Melissa? I think you are talking about
Melissa Nani? Anyway, I told her that you were asking about her, and asked her to
respond to you on this bulletin board.
I believe she might also be able to help you locate Barbara.

Well then, what's up with
the plan 2005 reunion? Anyone?, anything?, and perhaps any place in mind? Are we
getting contacts with all the alumni's or whatever the names I see in the bulletin?
It seems like most of them are either gone far far away doing other things and probably
others just don't care, no!! Keep me informed if I can help to get the 25th reunion
organized anyway. This friday I am going to France for two weeks and I should be
back by 25th. TTFN. |

I was just reading the bulletin
board after quite a long absence and was rather amused to read Steve Hartman's recollection
of how I exclaimed in indignation "Social Worker?!" So funny. I graduated
from San Jose State with a bachelor's degree in Social Work and I do not remember
having that type of reaction in Mr. Henniger's class...
Maybe it came just after finishing my "dot map" and having my eyes cross
while filling in India!
I also wanted to put in my two cents regarding Jeff Wilner's comments on the English
department at OGHS and the education that we received from Mr Nalty, Mrs. Williams,
Mrs. Shibley and Mr. Neighbors. I completely agree with you Jeff. I have often reflected
that I owe all of those teachers a huge debt of gratitude. I did not realize what
a privilege it was to have read and discussed Beowulf or The Rhyme of the Ancient
Mariner, and all of the other assignments that we complained over so bitterly back
then. (Do you remember writing precis for Mr. Nalty?) Not only did the education
I receive at OG help me excel in college, but also made me a lifelong learner with
a passion for reading. I reread a Canticle for Leibowitz about 3 years ago. Good
stuff! I am afraid to ask this next question... Is Mr. Nalty still with us? I can't
tell you how many times I have felt compelled to contact him and personally thank
him... |

A couple of us are planning
to get together later this week at a local restaurant for cocktails and perhaps dinner.
If you're interested in joining us, please email me at Mcdowells5@yahoo.com. Be sure
to make the subject line something I'll recognize otherwise I'll delete your email.
We haven't chosen the day (Fri, Sat,or Sun), place or time yet so flexibility and
patience are key. Thanks. |

The bulleting board is operational
again!
I apologize for the down time. The moderator email for the bulletin board processing
was getting a lot of SPAM, so I had to kill the email. This email address was only
shared with the Oak Grove class of '80 list, which means that someone on the list
(by way of a worm or on purpose) made this address available to spammers. Not a good
thing.
The problem after that is that I neglected to update the bulleting board program;
hence, all bulletin board posts for the last month have been lost. It should be working
now. |

Hi again...
I guess something ate the rest of my first post! I just wanted to say hi to everyone.
Glad to hear things are going well for all of you. I worked at the Saddle
Rack (when it was in SJ) for 10+ years, and ran into a few OG'ers there over the
years. I worked there while also at my "real" job - which I have
been at for almost 20 years. Where does the time go?!?
Carrie, shoot me an email and I'll fill you in on Dave. Would love to
hear from anyone that might remember me. (doryj@aol.com)
I am very much enjoying everyone's memories! I can't believe how much I remember
from high school... don't ask me what happened last week, but I can tell you what
year we won the CCS football title! |

Jeff Wilner: I remember Shibley-Neighbors.
That was a tough class. The fact that I rarely read the materials and tried to survive
off of note taking made it all the harder (I used to get headaches when I read)(in
fact, I still do). However, I do remember reading Canticle for Leibowitz (still have
the book), and I remember The Open Boat. I remember The Open Boat mainly because
when I wrote my paper on it, it was the first (and only) time I got an A on my first
try. Woo hoo!
It's funny... I was thinking about Shibley just the other day when I heard a rendition
of Over the Rainbow by Jewell. I seem to recall that she really liked that song.
She was fun. I remember once when Joe and I decided to pull a prank on her, and we
followed her on her way home. I think she lived in Morgan Hill (or somewhere down
in that direction). At one point, I triggered the alarm on my Cougar, turned on the
highbeams, and started weaving side to side behind her. LOL! She didn't see it coming.
We all had a good laugh over it once she realized it was just "those guys".
Thank God that she had a good sense of humor. That's another one of those pranks
that would probably have landed us in jail in these times.
Nalty-Williams... the phrase "Senator Jooooooe McCarthy" seems to haunt
my memory. That, and Crystal Carpenter's itchy ear. |

[To continue...]
Lori & Jeff Falk -- recall visiting your house shortly after you were married...
Faces with no vignets: Rob Vollmer... Robert Camp... Diane Chay... Devi Wattenbarger...
Mike Harris...
Updates on a few who have not posted:
Rick Bender -- re-married a few years ago (his wife's name is Shelly) and living
in San Francisco.
Mark Wallace (not '80) -- made a career in the computer game business. Currently
"between jobs"
Stefan Jaquet: (not '80) -- works at IBM. Stefan sails with me frequently, in races
on San Francisco bay.
Dave Anderson -- dropped off the face of the earth not long after graduating from
San Jose State... went to law school?
Geoff Coward (not '80) -- Living in LA... working part time and writing a novel...
Mike Fujimoto -- married and has 3(?) kids; all teenagers by now, I believe...
For myself: still live in San Jose... been married since '91... Anne and I have been
blessed with three children, (ages 9, 6, and 10 months)... I'm a software developer,
(Intuit QuickBooks) Cub Scout leader, and avid sailboat racer... I feel very fortunate,
and I'm very thankful.
For a 25th reunion, I'd vote for a low-overhead outdoor picnic kind of thing... maybe
a potluck... less work to fall on our overworked, under-appreciated volunteers.
Thanks Bill,
-SteveH |

Bill, I don't think that's
Larry Pierce. It doesn't look a thing like him. I e-mailed the company to inquire
anyway.
Jamie, Yes, I remember the toilet incident. I think it was our Junior year? It was
the Senior class before us that did that. I remember Ms. Neil too, always trying
to catch the smoker's in the girls bathroom.
Does anybody remember that Mr. Berryessa (psych teacher) had one blue eye and one
brown eye? It has been fun reading all these memories. I enjoyed his class, he had
a very interactive teaching style. I remember being the blinded folded one and one
of my classmates leading me around campus.

I recall various tidbits
about a bunch of folks who have posted on this forum (more or less working my way
from top to bottom down the forum list).
Jeff Hultquist -- one of my regrets is never attending the "Fellowship Club"
meetings you invited me to... also, the "Islam" research project in Humanities...
ha ha, imagine doing a "slide/tape" presentation *NOW*
Rod Simon -- witty guy with charisma, center of many a small group...
Michael Rodrigues -- all the way back to Miner elementary, if I remember correctly...
Sean Knepper -- good friend from across the street... last time we talked you were
having some troubles... hope things are looking up for you...
Bill Catambay -- but only after you mentioned the senior year "hit squad"
I believe I recall a "hit" on a certain Mr. Jewell during Philosophy...
Larry Gerstley -- another computer guy from Barbatta's programming class; though
as I recall it you were eager to get *out* of computer programming at either the
end of high school, or maybe at the 5 year reunion.
Ron Seimer -- you and I graduated from college around the same time; you from San
Diego, me from San Jose State... as I recall it you'd amassed something like 3 times
the minimum required credits for graduation...
Kim Lane -- I recall your shocked indignation at the results from the automated career
interest/aptitude test (whatever it was called) in 9th grade in Mr. Henninger's class:
This shocked and outraged voice rang across the room: "Social Worker?!"
Roland Kippenhan -- 180 E. Willam St: "So, a game?" (many, many, many games
of chess were played that year.) |

Rod- Thanks for the compliment.
Does anyone know how David Rose passed away? If my memory serves, he used to hang
out with Janel Dory and Greg Garrison whose father used to run Metcalf Motorcycle
Park. He was a nice young man.
I'm amazed how many of you remember so many details of your high school years at
Oak Grove. For me, much of it is a blur. Probably because I didn't spend much time
there. Transferring from NJ gave me a VERY LIGHT schedule for my junior/senior years.
I remember having only Government for the entire second semester of senior year making
it a good opportunity for me to earn some big bucks at McDonald's! |

Hey Denice,
Great to see your name on this!! I remember you - we lived on the same street, along
with the Nelson's, Hannahs, Edwards, Suechting's and a whole bunch of others!! My
sister is living in our old house now, so I go over there alot and see the old neighborhood
- it's fun - lots of great memories. Everyone remember Sue Wagner and Cathy Paim?
They are doing great also. Glad to see everyone is doing well. I'm living in Campbell
and missed the last reunion due to vacationing in Hawaii, but would be up for another
reunion anytime - the website posting page brings up alot of old memories that I
forgot!! It's Great!! |
Toni Matos (Clancy)
5/23/04 |
Denice,
It's been years... last time we saw each other I believe you stilled lived on Coleman
Ave. Hope your family is well.
It's been fun reading all the postings lately. I have remained in San Jose and still
see quite a few people (from OG) from time to time. Kim Lane and I have remained
friends and have kids that are in school together. Actually Kim Ramirez (Bernardo)
has a daughter that attends school at Pioneer High School too.
I would be interested in a 25th reunion... I can help, if needed. Keep up the chit-chat. |

Hey not to put a damper on
the Bocca bashing, but saw the obituary in last Thursday's paper for Frank Bocca,
yes THE Mr. Bocca. Being a squeaky clean kid, I never dealt with the man, but, as
a high school teacher, I know that he held the toughest, most thankless and absolutely
necessary job in any high school.
During our time, I think the job was even tougher. People of our parents' generation
had a real tough time dealing with the emergence of the sex, drugs and rock and roll
that we all seemed to like so well. These days, people on that job lived through
the crazy stuff as kids, so practically nothing surprises us with respect to kid
behavior (shootings excluded). Back then, I think all that most of those guys knew
to do was to be hardasses. I think some of you who were in his office might have
used the other "a" word, which I guess "Bocca" was. I worked
with a lot of those early in my career and they had my utmost respect. OG always
seemed like a pretty safe campus, though, so he must have been doing something right.
With the passing of our loved ones (my dad died last year), I think a lot of us are
becoming more aware of the mortality thing as more and more of our "icons"
(beloved teachers, family, hated vice principals, Captain Kangaroo) pass on. Just
thought I'd get that info out for those who hadn't seen it.
About Mr. Nalty. Believe it or not, he was in charge of what I have found in my Ed
travels to have been one of the strongest high school English departments ANYWHERE!
The writing discipline that I learned in Shibley-Neighbors and Nalty-Williams classes
carried me through one BA and two masters degrees. I NEVER received an A on a first
draft in Shibley-Neighbors, (where are you, Laurie Church? We were all very annoyed
when you would yell YESSSSSS when the papers were handed back) but I did ace almost
all of my papers through college. Two of my schools were good ones, too! Jack Nalty
was the backbone and leader of this extremely strong department. I wonder if the
rest of you felt as prepared for college as I did having had these fabulous eddycators.
(Don't check my grammar, I'm not)
That's it. Nice to see so many postings. People must be getting nostalgic again.
Hey Jeff Hultquist... twins, huh? I've got two sets. Let's talk some time for more
than 15 seconds! |
Rob Vollmer
5/23/04 |
Jeff Hultquist - Great to
see your name in print again! I sure do miss our "competitions" we had
every year at OG since C. Davis. I understand you're well published now. That's another
'no-surprise.' By the way, as far as competitions go, Brian Hegarty is under the
misguided notion that HE finished #1 in the class. I have to keep reminding him that
he's suffering from a delusional memory and that you and I barely remember who he
was. Funny!
Please feel free to e-mail me.
Looking back on it all, I wish I had spent less time studying and more time hanging
out with all of you! Especially the cheerleaders! |
Rod Simon
5/23/04 |
Carrie -- Oh, please! I would
have gone to the prom with you in a heartbeat! It seems that lots of us had a crush
on the Jersey girl. I loved working at McD's just so I could be around you! I know that Jeff
(Lor's brother) went on to Cal Poly. I saw him a couple years after he went down
there. Annie was such a sweetheart. I remember Pete (Williams) too. He was a great
guy and such a trip. I remember him pouring window washer on his '67 Mustang's tires
and laying patches in the parking lot. Wasn't there another lady named Dagna? She
was a cutie.
Mr. Boca actually lived in the same neighborhood I did in Evergreen several years
ago. He seemed like a lonely and sad old man. I felt sorry for him. |
Jeff Hultquist

Hello. I am glad to find
this webpage. Thanks to Bill Catambay for tracking me down. I am living in Cupertino,
married for eighteen years, and we have three sons -- the oldest is thirteen and
twins who are eleven. I am a computer programmer (no surprises there, I suppose).
Just doing the suburb thing - kids, homework, and soccer practices! |

5/22/04 |
Mike--Of course I remember
you. As a matter of fact you and I had emailed a couple of years ago at about the
time your baby was born. (I can't remember whether you and your wife had a boy/girl)
Yeah, McDonald's was a trip. It became horribly uncomfortable for me after I was
dumped by Keith Bushaw. You were always fun to work with and pleasant to be around.
Do you still hear from Pete (I can't remember his last name.) I wonder what happened
to people like Annie, Cyndy, Maria, Lori and Jeff.
Fred--You're making me blush so stop it! I never thought you were nerdy. You always
made me laugh which is a quality I admire. I didn't go to school dances either. As
a matter of fact, I didn't go to the prom cause I didn't have a date! Who'd have
wanted to go with "Carrie" anyway???

Bill--I think it was your innocent looking face that made me think you just COULDN'T
get into trouble!

I'm glad that many of us are back in touch with each other through this site. Thanks,
Bill, for making the contact possible. |
Bill Catambay

Jamie, it wasn't actually
Shoresman that suspended me, it was Boca. I believe my falling out of my chair combined
with calling Mr. Shoresman "Shorsey Baby" triggered Shoresman to call Boca
after class. I remember that Boca escorted me out of my next class (some strange
class where I was learning Morse Code - talk about a surreal experience).
Carrie, what made you think I was not the type to get in trouble? Just curious.
As far as Boca is concerned, some figures of authority are unfairly criticized because
their job requires them to be tough. Boca, on the other hand, earned his bad rap
IMHO. His methods were not effective, and always disrespectful and damaging. I think
he got some sick pleasure out of treating students as felons. I don't recall the
conversation, but after my mom talked with him, she hated him.
The principal, on the other hand, was cool. Was his name Clark? Anyway, I remember
our senior prank when we dressed up as Arabs and went around placing water gun "hits"
on teachers. We got so bold that we approached Clark and did him as well. It was
a good thing we chose him last, because after he laughed, he confiscated our water
guns. He was a good guy. Man, if we tried something like that today, we'd probably
go to jail or get shot.
Oh, and the teachers that we hit got the last laugh. They decided to strike after
our graduation ceremony. After I picked up my graduation certificate envelope, I
was walking back to the car with my family and opening up the envelope to look at
it. What a shock when I discovered that what I had spent the last 4 years earning
was nothing but a plain white card that said "Gotcha!", with the initials
of the teachers that we had watered down. LOL. |
Fred Myetich
5/22/04 |
Yep... it was Mr. Naulte
that threw the plastic fruit. He'd also throw parts of his lunch if it happened to
be closer to him. Scary to say, I remember all of you. At the last reunion I was
surprised how many people remembered me though. I walked around the campus with my
camera permanently attached to my shoulder. It's paid off though... my daughter's
G.A.T.E. teacher and I have started a photo lab at her school and I volunteer there
almost every day.
During HS I was more into Drama and Photo than anything else. I never went to a single
dance throughout all 4 years. I would never call myself shy, but I was the fat nerdy
kid and never thought anyone would go with me.
Carrie White, now that you and I have exchanged a few e-mails over the last few years,
and since I'm not looking you in the eye, I can say, MAN did I have a crush on you.
I'd go into McDonald's just to look at you. Ahhhh the memories of youth.
Hope this finds everyone well.
God bless! |
Mike Harris
5/22/04 |
Hey Carrie,
We worked at McD's for a while with Rod - remember? I can appreciate your comment
about transferring from the East Coast to CA. I made that move just before freshman
year in '76 and was tormented about my NY accent for quite some time.
BTW, the teacher who threw fruit was Mr. Nalty - he taught freshman english and also
taught Advanced Humanities with Mrs. Williams to seniors. I also remember him shaking
desks as Mike R. recalls.
What about Mr. Boca? I'm surprised there's been no mention of him so far!! |
Angela Maguire
5/22/04 |
It is good to see so many
of us writing on the bullentin board and everyone doing well. I too am another classmate
of OG that probably not very many would remember me. I did attend the reunion and
had a blast. Thank you Bill for putting that all together. If a 25 year reunion does
not happen, then meeting up with some of you all at a dinner would be fun too.
The only two classmates I really keep in touch with are Karla (McWhirter) Garcia
and Pam (Little) Dotson. Believe it or not, Pam has a son who will be graduating
from high school next month. Now who feels old... |
Jamie (Everett) Montgomery
5/22/04 |
Oh My God - some of you can
remember the order of your classes?? I can barely remember what teacher I had in
which year. Ok, except Ms. Espinoz, english, senior year. And that is only because
if I didn't pass, I didn't graduate! Never was good at english. The only english
lessons I remember are from School House Rock.

Bill- I had Mr. Shoresman. You must have done something really bad to get suspended
during his class. He was so nice. Did you blow something up or throw your frog at
someone?!
Do any of you remember the counselers? I had to be behave at school because Mr. Longfield
is my uncle!! And Mrs. Longfield (my mom's sister) worked in the office. Talk about
pressure.
Do the names Boca and Neil ring any bells!
Does anyone remember our Jr. (or was it senior?) year when someone put an outhouse
on the grass hill with a "Boca's Office" sign on it. I loved that. |
Carrie White
5/21/04 |
Bill- I simply can't picture
you doing anything worth suspension, let alone falling out of your seat! You must
have had SOME fun!
I never really knew many people at school after having transferred from New Jersey
for junior year. I was totally disoriented--after all, coming from the east coast
to California was a big deal. Before moving here I thought everyone was blonde haired
and blue eyed!
Hope everyone is well. |
Rod Simon
5/21/04 |
Does anyone remember Mr.
Emerson? I think I had him for Geometry. He is still associated with Education. He
now works for the East Side Union High School District as the HR Director. I went
to the District to sell them a software product, and he was sitting across the table
from me during my presentation. Even though I normally call my clients by my first
name, it so so hard not to call him Mr. Emerson.

I crack up looking at the "bad" things that we did as kids. The worst thing
that I did was step on ketchup and mustard packets and watch them spray. I rememeber
doing it once and getting a group of girls in the back, but they did not know it
(I would not have even done that, but it was a Matt Maes influence ). I wish kids today only had to
deal with such problems.
Kim Bernardo-Ramirez - did I see you recently at a Pioneer/Branham baseball game?
My girlfriend has a son on the team and pointed out your daughter and said that her
mom went to OG. I saw someone that looked like it could have been you, but I am not
sure. If that was you, don't you ever age? You could have not been in MY graduating
class! |
Kathy Perry (McWhorter)

Hello,
I guess I will finally chime in. I never see anyone from the HS daze, however my
twin sister, Kelly, see's a few as she still lives in SanJo. I too so wish I could
burn my senior picture. (what a goober!) I don't have that many recollections from
HS except for my senior year. Whenever I hear "On Top of the World" by
Cheap Trick, it brings a flood of memories back from practicing our Song Girl routine
in the quad to the football games, and the band playing the fight song either super
fast or super slow to watch us struggle. I'm embarassed to admit that I still remember
parts of the routine! I'm living in Fairfield now with my hubby of 13 years, no kids
just a cat named Shelli. (I have 12 nieces and newphews though.) I'm a manager for
Meyer Corporation, a leading manufacturer of pots and pans. It's nice to read all the bulletins and
hearing what everyone has been up to.

Hi Denice, I remember you

so long.
Does anyone know where Teresa Woodward is? |

If memory serves... I believe
it was McNaulty (or McNalty... spelling?!). He had that fruit stashed 360 around
the room... he would walk around everyone and if you weren't paying attention, you
stood a good chance of having one of those plastic fruit projectiles bash you upside
the back of the head. When tests finished he was interesting too... trying to get
them all collected quickly... he would go up to someone trying to scratch out the
last part of an answer and shake the desk.
Anyone remember Henninger? Had him right after McNaulty. He used a wooden podium,
which was oddy notched on both sides... you soon learned that was because he would
slap a wooden yardstick across it when he thought someone was not paying attention...
often breaking it. It was repaird with duct tape from several such collisions. Dress
shoes... WHITE socks... plaid flood pants... leather jacket... and horn rimmed glasses...
man, he made even me look like a fashion plate.
Oh... don't get me started... |

It is fun to read all the
messages. Tami....I see Kristin Nelson and Scott Standridge occasionally. I will
let them know you want to hear from them. Kristin lives in Scotts Valley and we have
a place on the Delta, as do Scott's parents, so I'll pass on the info through them. |

Hey Rod, I remember Mr. Nalty
(although I'm not sure on the correct spelling of his name). What stands out in my
mind the most was the way he used to get excited when he talked, throw his tie over
his shoulder and shout "Young ladies and gentlemen!" I thought it was pretty
cool.
Did anyone have Mr Shoresman for science? Just curious if anyone can bear witness
to that dark day when I got suspended for a week (Freshman year). My memory is not
real clear on exactly what went on or what I said to get myself in trouble, but I
do recall falling out of my chair. |
Rod Simon
5/20/04 |
Sean,
I think the English teacher was Mr. Nalty (or something like that). He used to bounce
the fruit off the walls. When my kids complained about their teachers being off the
wall, I told them about him! He definitely was different, but I will never forget
"Am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been."
Does anyone remember Miss Felice? I know the guys probably do. I can still hear her
saying, "Type A, S, D, F, semi."
Somebody help me get these people out of my head! |
Donna Sue McCrary (Brown)

Hi: Well I never hung out
in a field, in a train, in the rain watching a game, wait thats Sam I am Green Eggs
in Ham. LOL. I did have a psych class with Berryessa, but I never had plastic food
thrown at me LOL. I did not have that teacher , maybe I did, I was always getting
in trouble for talking out of turn. That has changed. I did have fun there, I just
read what everyone writes and wish now that I could have made friends with some of
you instead of work. Oh well. I know one time I got in trouble in History class for
something. I did not even cut on senior cut day. I think the worst thing I did was
smoke in the bathroom. LOL See now that you all are writing I m starting to remember
some of you and some things that happened that year. I remember going to Togos for
lunch on Fridays WOOOHOO that was me being a bad girl and a rule breaker LOL. I have
2 girls that go to Oak Grove now. Well the older one is at San Jose State this year.
Last year was her senior year at Oak Grove, and my baby is a Junior. Anyway I still
had fun. I thnk it is Kewl that my daughters went to my high school. Any of u have
children there?
Sean I have not seen my brother in 20 years. I do not even know what is up with him.
I parted ways with my family in 1992 and have never looked back. Anyway we were never
close. I just thought that most people knew him - he was at home when he was in high
school so he was able to make friends and join in school functions, or school sports.
I did go to a lot of football games, and spirt rallies, they were fun. |
Karla (McWhirter) Garcia
5/20/04 |
Hi Donna~ Oh no... my high
school picture... if only I could go through all the yearbooks and burn that horrible
photo!!!! Seriously that is the most embarrassingly bad photo of all time! I need
to submit an updated one to the site... what a little make-up, hair dye and better
self esteem can do for a girl!
I had no idea what the math teachers name was but now that you mentioned Davis that
sounds familiar (I don't remember any plastic fruit tossing). I remembered you from
your description... you sat on the row next to me and I remember talking to a girl
in front of me named Nellie ( I think).
Since I was painfully shy in school I didn't get to know many people, but I have
a wierd rainman-like quality for remembering names, so I recognize tons the names
that keep popping up... |
Debbie (Victor) Arnold
5/19/04 |
Memories...it's been fun
reading all of your memories from school days. I remember driving lessons with coach
Stern, a great Psy class with Berryessa, all the rallies put on for school spirit,
playing J.V. Volleyball and softball. I remember my friends were the best. I enjoyed
my locker buddies Brian Wagner and Stacy Seymore who always kept me laughing.
I have a lot a great memories.
 |
Sean Knepper
5/19/04 |
I too remember Holmgren and
that class.... And I remember your brother BB.
By the way, wasn't Davis the one who threw the plastic fruit when you spoke in his
class (w/o permission)?
Glad to see so many starting to be active on the board again.
It was a blast to see some of you last go around. I would certainly be up for another
reunion down the road... |
Angela Jones (Carter)
5/19/04 |
Tami, I didn't know you guys
called yourself the whistlers, the rest of us called you guys the "stoners".
Maybe that's why you can't remember anybody? hehehe just kidding. . . . . . .
I didn't have any classes with you nor did I hang out in the field or the bathroom.
I hung out with my teammates on the basketball team. I hope somebody shows up that
you remember.
 |
Donna Sue McCrary (Brown)
5/19/04 |
Hi Karla:
I do remember you after I looked at your pic. Thank you for remembering me. I was
not popular and I did not have a lot of friends. I had to go to prom with one of
my brothers friends (at least I went LOL). I think his name was Charlie Cowan. Anyway,
half way thru the year I moved out and worked 2 jobs plus went to high school. Coach
Holmgren taught me to drive too. I remember some guy who used to be the quaterback,
and a girl named Jill. I remember a person named Ken who used to give me rides to
school so I would not have to walk, he went with a girl named Barbie. Although back
then I do not think he would have admitted that. LOL.
Anyway, I do remember talking to you in Math class. I just did not have a lot of
friends (not that that was anyone's fault but my own coz I had to work so much).
Gee I used to envy so many of you. Thank you Karla for remembering me.
You know I do not even think that I went out on dates with anyone. History is repeating!
I remember that people would always say hello to me though, I do remember that.
Gosh what was I thinking with that mushroom hair I had?
 |
Tami Nelson
5/19/04 |
Well... I was reading the
postings and for some reason, I can't remember any of you. I guess I was hanging
out in the field with the whistlers. Or dragons in the bathroom. I know coach Holmgren
was my driver training teacher and I was an aide in that class for 2 years. I would
love to hear from Melissa, Barbara, Scott Standridge ... someone I would remember..
oh, and my name sake.. Kristen Nelson.. Take care everyone... |
Donna Sue Brown (McCrary)

Hello: I just wanted to say
that I had a History Class and I remember that the teacher's names was Mr. Holgren.
I had a math class with Mr. Davis I think. I have since lost my book due to moving
and living in so many states. |
Karla (McWhirter) Garcia
5/18/04 |
Hi Donna - I remember you...you
were in my math class. I was extremely shy back then but I remember talking to you
during class and I remember you're telling me that you had moved here from Ohio. |
Donna Sue McCrary (Brown)
5/17/04 |
Hi: I was wondering if anyone
remembers me. I guess not though I only went to Oak Grove for my senior year. I moved
to Cali the summer before 12th grade from Ohio. Maybe you might remember my brother
- he was the one everyone knew, his name is Bobby and he played football. Anyway,
if anyone thinks they know me please let me know. I would like to try to talk to
someone from those days if I can.
Thank you
Donna Sue |

Hey all - yes I remember
Rapper's Delight. How about Curits Blow, or here is one for those who went to Davis
- Eightteen with a Bullet. I have that and many many more. I have spent alot of my
time over the last couple of years searching out rare tunes on mp3. I have complete
cd's of alot of the stuff. I see alot of you live in the sactown area. Maybe some
of us could try to do something up this way. |
Jamie (Everett) Montgomery
5/17/04 |
Hi Angela... I remember you
too. Mr. Brewer's History class, talk about a flashback. I loved that class (sick,
I know, but true)! Thanks for bringing back good memories. I see you live in Elk
Grove. I am really close, in Galt. If you ever want to meet up for lunch or coffee,
let me know. Take care. |
Angela Jones (Carter)
4/30/04 |
Hello there Jamie Everett.
If Sugar Hill Gang doesn't ring a bell with Louis, it does with me. I totally remember
you from Mr. Brewer's History Class and P.E. I can remember one day in history, You
asked "Have you heard that new song called Reunited?"
And Bill Catambay, I'm expressing my interest in a 25 year reunion. I live too far
to volunteer to be on the committee, but I can assist with anything that can be accomplished
from a distance. |
Bill Catambay
4/29/04 |
We have Hultquist' contact
information; in fact, we had it before the 20 year reunion. The problem was that
he never returned any phone calls, and when Jeff Wilner was lucky enough to have
caught him at home, well, from what I hear, it was not the most pleasant of conversations.
Rod, regarding the 25 year reunion, it's too early to say whether it will happen
or not, but currently there is definitely not enough interest expressed to warrant
a full blown reunion. As someone suggested, perhaps a simple dinner or something
like that could be planned. It would be fun to have one like the 20 year, but it
was expensive, and we just barely broke even (thanks to a couple of last minute pay-at-the-door
arrivals). It was also a blast, and a lot of the high ticket items, such as the room
and the casino setup, made a big difference in the ambience and breaking the ice.
We shall see. |
Lawrence (Larry) Gerstley
4/29/04 |
Hey Dave Phillips--
Great to hear you're still playing--I saw John Gutierrez a few years back, right
before he moved off to Colorado at the time with his family. Still have a tape somewhere
in the garage of the Reno Jazz Festival when we did the small combo thing. I kept
playing for years and had a group in Scotland from '92 to '97, but am in a hiatus
now. My wife and I tried to make it to your show in Marin (I think) a few years ago,
but couldn't make it -- would love to see your group on your next tour.
Rob and Roland--
I spoke to Jeff Hultquist a few years back as well. I think he was in Santa Clara,
and it was right before the reunion, which I missed. He's got quite a few papers
out there attributed to him, so I think he's findable. How's life after the move,
Roland? |
Rod Simon
4/29/04 |
Hey Michael!
It's funny how that "responsibility" thing always gets in the way! I rarely
play the drums anymore. Both my boys play for their church and they are *much* better
than I ever was.
Yes, I still try to stay young by coaching sports. I just finished up basketball
season with my youngest. Until this year I had been coaching baseball for the last
16 years. My oldest is playing college ball and my youngest will be playing for his
high school. My coaching days may be over (well, maybe I can coach again when I have
grandkids) :-).
So are we going to do this 25th reunion or what? |
Jamie (Everett) Montgomery
4/28/04 |
Louis Wilson - How about
Sugar Hill Gang? Ringing any bells?? |
Michael Rodrigues
4/26/04 |
Sup Roderick!
Sadly not for the past 9 years... did a stint of working full-time and going to San
Jose State full-time at the latter end of the 90's. Time for sleep and rockin' out
were hard to come by. I've been to lazy to get back into it... so far.
So you still into sports? Somehow I picture you coaching kids' football or something...
Take it easy. |
Ron Siemer
4/26/04 |
Hey Robert,
I was wondering what happened to you. Your name never showed up as "found"
for the 20 year. The last rumor I heard (20 years old or so) was that you joined
a super fund toxic clean-up team. Any truth to that? |
Robert Camp
4/25/04 |
To All,
Hi OG Class of 1980.I just found this site and have really enjoyed catching up on
"memory Lane".
I added my personal info on the e-forms, cruised the bulletin board...and of course
looked at a lot of pics-was that really us?!!!
Check my picture and see if it jogs any memories (I remember many of you). If you
remember anything about me, it might be that I was really into rock climbing (I actually
became a Professional Guide). |
Shirley Harrison (Reno)
4/21/04 |
David Parag: Please e-mail
me when you get a chance. I have lost your e-mail address when I moved two years
ago. I am still living in Arkansas and have been divorced now for about two years.
I have a daughter getting married on the 24th of this month and a granddaughter due
next month. I have a son getting married in October and one going in the 10th grade
and one going in the 4th. I am looking forward to meeting everyone at the 25th reunion.
Anyone interested, please e-mail me. Be glad to hear from all of you. |

Very interesting trip down
memory lane. Good to see the before and after photos. I'll send an after picture
in. Mike Chism is usually down at the Capitol Bowling lanes on Sunday watching football.
I've bumped into a few others and will pass on the word about the website.
Go Oak Grove !
Oh, yeah for those interested, I've had a TV show on Comcast Cable channel 15 for
the last 9 years called "Eye2eyE " it features the best in Comedy, Music,
Sports and more. It comes on at 10:30p.m.
I'd be happy to assist the class getting anyword out on a reunion. |
Carrie White
4/20/04 |
Bill: If you don't get much
of a response for a 25th, those of us willing can do something a little more less
formal like meet for dinner. A couple of us are considering doing that anyway sometime
this summer as a pre-reunion reunion. I'll post the "when and where" once
plans have been formalized.
Living in San Diego doesn't make it all that easy for me to help out in the planning
of a 25th but I'm available for brainstorming. Let me know what you need. |
Kim Lane
4/20/04 |
Dave Phillips:
I am still in touch with Barry Nordby. I will drop him a line and let him know how
to contact you... |
Bill Catambay
4/20/04 |
Regarding the BEFORE and
AFTER pictures, yes! For those of you who I don't have a current picture, please
contact me and
get me a current picture. Once I have the picture (paper or electronic), I'll create
a BEFORE/AFTER transition for the Oak Grove web site.
By the way, so far I am NOT getting enough response to encourage investment in a
25 year reunion. I need to hear from a lot more of you. Also, please help us find
the rest of our classmates! Click on the Alumni buttons to see who we still don't
have contact information for. |
Ron Siemer

Bill:
Thanks for keeping this lifeline together. I hope the next reunion is as big a success
as (I heard) the last one was. It would kill us if Gitte and I missed this one too.
We hadn't planned a trip back to the States until 2006, but maybe we can figure something
out. Are you still doing "before and after" pictures?
Roland:
My mom told me you stopped by for a visit a while back. How's the "right"
coast treating you?
Richard:
You haven't chimed in yet. Last I heard you were headed for marriage #3. How's that
working out? I would have loved to have gotten together with you and the gang the
last time we were in CA. We've really spread out haven't we. Do you think Wallace
is still not talking to you? Can you believe Falk and Wagner have been married almost
25 years!!! (good on ya')
Vollmer:
I sent you Matt's email address. I'm sure he won't mind. |
Dave Phillips
4/19/04 |
Dear friends,
Hope you are all well. I'm looking forward to our next reunion. I wanted to mention
again that my new CD is available online at www.cdbaby.com. My group just had a nice tour
in Arizona, New Mexico and 2 concerts in CA. One at West Valley College and one at
Sonoma State....

Thanks Jack Souza for coming!!!!!
Also, I'm trying to locate some guys I played with in School: Brad Bearman, Barry
Nordby, John Gutierrez, Ron Cambell etc.... anybody have any info on these guys?
Thanks,
Dave Phillips |

Rob,
Matt Maes was working for Peoplesoft in the East Bay last I knew. He taught at the
Peoplesoft University. It's been a couple years since I talked to him though. He
was at the reunion.
As to Jeff Hultquist, I've seen his name attributed to some graphics software here
and there, but don't know what he's doing now. |

fame) as a client!
Jeff Hultquist, where are you? Laurie Church, where are you?
Also, where is Matt Maes (Heminger)?

Bill, thanks for sending
out the notice about the bulletin board. I had forgotten about it. I had a blast
at the last reunion and am looking forward to the next one. I will volunteer to be
on the committee for the 25th.
Mike Rodrigues - Of course we remember you. Are you still rockin' with your guitar?
Carrie White - Where have you been? The last time I saw you was in Sunnyvale MANY
years ago. We were supposed to keep in touch. Write me at roderick_simon@sbcglobal.net.

Hello,
Since I missed all the reunions so far, I thought I'd fill people in on my life.
After high school I enlisted in the US Coast Guard. Part way through my enlistment
I realized my life was going nowhere fast, and I rededicated my life to the Lord.
Shortly later I met my wife-to-be. We married in 1982. We have 4 children, 1 is now
married. After active duty I got a job at IBM in San Jose and transferred between
San Jose and Rochester Minnesota a couple times. I now live in Rochester Minnesota
once again, and have been very active with Calvary Chapel. In fact, I am pastoring
an outreach fellowship (soon to be a church) in Rochester Minnesota. I'm not rich,
I am not famous, but I am content. I have a loving family and I know that my relationship
with God makes me sure that I will go to heaven when I die. There is nothing better
than having peace in your heart, and I can honestly say that I have found that peace. |
